Mrs. Casto’s Syllabus

SJGS MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of St. Joseph Grade School is to provide an opportunity for all students to develop a sense of God’s loving presence through academic excellence, Christian awareness, and spiritual growth.

CLASSROOM RULES AND BEHAVIOR PLAN

Classroom Expectations:

There are three main expectations in our class.

   1. Respect

        2. Stay on Task

    3. Be prepared and organized

In order to ensure that all students and teachers are treated with respect, some expectations are required. This year I will stress the importance of making good choices, and the consequences of not making the right choice.  My first expectation is that each person in the class treats all other persons with respect, (as they wish to be treated).  My second expectation is readiness. Successful students come prepared for class by having all items they will need for the day, and with-in proper uniform. My final expectation is to be on task. If students are on task they will succeed. If a student makes the wrong choice about these expectations there will be a consequence. Positive consequences are used to reinforce and reward student’s positive displays of behavior. Students want to succeed when offered positive reinforcement for their good behavior. I will continuously strive for a positive relationship with every student. I want everyone to be comfortable at school.

ABSENCES/TARDIES

Please refer to the school handbook’s Absence/Tardy Policy.

Extended Absences: No make-up work can be sent in advance. All work will be made-up upon return in an appropriate amount of time-one day for each day missed.

Missed Work: Refer to handbook. One day for each day missed will be allowed to complete the work.

CHEATING and PLARGARISM

Cheating will result in a lunchtime detention and automatic Zero on that assignment or test. Continued cheating will result in consultation with Mrs. Templeton and further consequences.

HOMEWORK

Daily: Students will complete all unfinished work and return the work to school the next day.

Please check Mystudentsprogress.com for assigned work as well as student planners.

Homework Policy: Homework is expected on the day it is due. Students will be required to finish or redo any homework that is not turned in on the day it was due at recess.

Homework Folders: Students are responsible to use their homework folder. Homework folders must be brought to school each day with the completed homework. Homework will be turned in first thing in the morning.

Planners: Daily planners will be provided in which students will copy daily homework assignments. Most of my communication to you will be in the planner. Any discipline or concerns will also be communicated through the planner. I may ask you for further communication.

Parents need to sign this agenda each day after the homework is completed, and return the agenda to school the following day with the homework folder. Students are responsible for writing their homework in their agendas before they leave school every day. This assures that the student takes responsibility for knowing what homework he or she is to complete and the parent takes responsibility for overseeing the completion.

PARENTAL CONCERNS

Please feel free to send me notes, call me at school, or make appointments for any concerns you have.  If you wish to schedule a conference with me please contact the office in advance for an appointment, as this is school policy.

EMAIL: My email address is mcasto@stjosephgs.org.  If you have not already done so please write to me so I will have your e-mail. I am always open to parental concerns, and feel a good relationship between teacher and parents result in a successful happy child.

Blogger: My blogger site is:  www.mrscastosclass12.blogspot.com

I will frequently have assignments and information on my blogger site. I try to update my blog every week, however new assignments, or information will be posted as needed. Please save my blog under your favorites, and check it every day.

CLASSROOM PARTIES

Birthday treats should be sent to the office and the student will serve them at lunchtime. There will be many times I will beg for snacks, but please do not send treats containing peanuts. Due to severe peanut allergies, items containing peanuts will not be served, as this is school policy.
